Train fire: At least 21 passengers were injured after a fire broke out in a coach of Delhi-Saharsa Vaishali Superfast Express in Uttar Pradesh's Etawah on Thursday early morning, said officials.
It is pertinent to mention that this is the second such incident in 12 hours. On Wednesday, around 5:30 pm, a fire broke out in the New Delhi-Darbhanga Special Express train, damaging three coaches and injuring eight passengers.
According to Etawah Superintendent of Police (SP) Sanjay Kumar, the fire was reported around 2:40 am on Thursday in the S-6 coach of train, 12554, which was en route to Bihar's Saharsa from New Delhi. The Delhi-Saharasa Vaishali Express caught fire while it was passing through an area under the Friends Colony police station.
21 people injured
As per the reports, 21 injured passengers were taken to different hospitals for treatment, According to officials, as many as 13 of the injured passengers were rushed to Saifai Medical University for treatment while seven are admitted to Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar Government Joint Hospital of the headquarters while one passenger was discharged after being administered first aid.
Seventeen of the injured are natives of Bihar, three are from Uttar Pradesh's Gonda and one is from Rajasthan.
The police said that the cause of the fires is yet to be ascertained.
"The fire broke out in the S6 coach of Vaishali Superfast Express. The rescue team immediately reached the spot. There has been no loss of life. Nobody is injured. The train was stopped for 30-35 mins," said SP Etawah Rural, Satyapal Singh.
8 injured in New Delhi-Darbhanga Express train fire
At least eight passengers were injured as a fire broke out in the New Delhi-Darbhanga Special Express train near Uttar Pradesh's Etawah on Wednesday evening. Three coaches of the train were damaged in the fire.
Naveen Kumar, the Relief Commissioner of Uttar Pradesh, said that eight people, including four from Bihar, sustained injuries in the fire and were admitted at the Etawah district hospital. "The nature of injuries and other details of these passengers are being ascertained," he said.
Etawah Superintendent of Police said, “Fire broke out in three coaches of New Delhi-Darbhanga Clone Express in Etawah. Primarily, it seems that a fire broke out due to a short circuit. A few people sustained minor injuries but there have not been any casualties. Efforts are underway regarding resuming the journey of the train.”
