Atiq Ahmed's killing: Three days after gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed and his brother were shot dead by three shooters in Uttar Pradesh's Prayagraj, a letter of gangster's wife Shaista Parveen has surfaced which she had written to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The letter was written to CM Yogi on February 27 in which she apprehended that top cops in the UP Police were planning to kill her husband and brother-in-law.

In her letter, Shaista alleged that senior cops under the orders of a minister were conspiring to kill Atiq Ahmed and his brother under the police custody.

Shaista alleged that big officers are involved in this conspiracy... they will try to get Atiq Ahmed and Ashraf out of jail during the police remand... and then he will be murdered.

Atiq's wife had written this letter to CM Yogi three days after Umesh Pal was murdered.

Shaista also claimed that a minister had given the contract to police officers to kill Umesh Pal.

No mafia can threaten people in UP now, says CM Yogi

Earlier today, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath during an event lauded the law & order situation in the state saying no mafia can now threaten people or any industrialist.

"Before 2017, the state was infamous for riots. More than 700 riots rocked the state between 2012 and 2017. But not a single riot broke out after 2017. Earlier, just the names of many districts scared people. Now there is no need to be scared," CM Yogi said.

Supreme Court to hear plea seeking independent probe in Atiq's killing

The Supreme Court today agreed to hear on April 24 a plea seeking an independent probe into the killing of gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmad and his brother Ashraf in Uttar Pradesh's Prayagraj.

The duo were shot dead at point-blank range by three men posing as journalists in the middle of a media interaction on Saturday night while police personnel were escorting them to a medical college in Prayagraj for a checkup.

A bench headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud took note of the submissions of advocate Vishal Tiwari who mentioned the matter seeking urgent hearing. The plea has also sought an inquiry into the 183 encounters that have taken place in Uttar Pradesh since 2017.

Just hours before the shooting, the last rites of Ahmad's son Asad, who along with one of his associates was gunned down in a police encounter in Jhansi on April 13, were held.
