The Uttar Pradesh police has informed gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed told them that he has direct connections with "Pakistani's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba."
The gangster was produced in UP's Prayagraj court in the Umesh Pal murder case on Thursday which sent Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf to 4-day police custody.
"... I have no dearth of weapons because I have direct connections with Pakistan's ISI and terror organisation Lashkar-e-Taiba. Weapons from Pakistan are dropped on Punjab border with the help of drones and local connection collects them. Terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir get weapons from this consignment. If you take me with you, I can help you recover that money, arms, and ammunition used in the incident," gangster Atiq Ahmed said according to the chargesheet.
His statement has come on the day when Atiq Ahmed's son Asad and accomplice Ghulam were shot dead in an encounter by UP STF today in Jhansi.
Asad was accused in the Umesh Pal murder case.
Atiq Ahmed was in court when he came to know that his son and aide have been killed in the encounter.
Post the encounter, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath chaired a high-level meeting over the 'law and order' condition in the state.
Both the accused who have been killed in the encounter were carrying Rs 5 lakh reward. Police have also recovered foreign-made weapons from them.
CM Yogi Adityanath lauded the 12-member STF team which was involved in the shootout.
Gangster Atiq Ahmed has also been convicted in the murder case of Umesh Pal.
