Asad Ahmed encounter: Uttar Pradesh police on Thursday claimed that gangster Atiq Ahmed's son Asad along with his accomplice was planning to attack the police convoy which was bringing his father from Gujarat. Asad, the key accused in the Umesh Pal murder case, and his aide Ghulam, were killed in the police encounter today in Jhansi.
Police said that during the chase, they asked the criminals to surrender but they retaliated. They tried to escape on a two-wheeler when their bike slipped and they fell. The accused fired on the cops but were killed in the gunfire.
Atiq Ahmed had entered UP's Jhansi at 7:40 am on Wednesday. The Jhansi Reserve Police Line was halted at around 8 am following which the police left for Jhansi around 9:30 am, cops said.
So far, 183 criminals have been killed in police encounters under the Yogi government.
Mohd Asad, son of gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmad, along with shooter Ghulam, were shot dead in an encounter by a team of Special Task Force (STF) in Jhansi today. Both carried a reward of Rs 5 lakh on their heads.
The STF team led by Deputy SP Navendu and Deputy SP Vimal carried out the encounter at Jhansi. Sophisticated foreign-made weapons have been recovered from the two deceased.
Asad had been caught on camera opening fire at Umesh Pal in Dhoomanganj in Prayagraj on February 24.
The encounter took place on a day when Atiq Ahmad and his brother Ashraf are being produced in court in Prayagraj.
ADG STF Amitabh Yash said that the STF had asked the two to surrender but they opened fire after which the team had to retaliate.
Meanwhile, Atiq Ahmad broke down in court during hearing when informed of his son's encounter.
