Asad Ahmed encounter: UP Police Special DG Law & Order IPS Prashant Kumar on Thursday said that all attempts were made to arrest the son of Gangster Atiq Ahmed, Asad, and another shooter Ghulam, who were killed in the police encounter today when they retaliated.
Speaking exclusively in Aaj Ki Baat, Prashant Kumar said that when the police tried to nab them, they fired back. Two foreign-made weapons, and one local weapon were recovered from them.
Prashant Kumar further said that the police retaliated in self defence... they were trying to escape... we had sanitised the entire route through which the cops were bringing gangster Atiq Ahmed to Prayagraj jail from Gujarat's Sabarmati... all attempts were made to arrest them (Asad and Ghulam)... but when they retaliated... we fired back."
Responding to opposition parties slamming the UP government, Prashant Kumar said he won't say anything on political reactions.
UP STF ADG Amitabh Yash said, "...how cruel these gangsters are and how mercilessly they fired on cops... if they would have surrendered then this shouldn't have happened."
