As per the latest data released by the Election Commission of India (ECI), Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) Smriti Irani is trailing behind Congress's Kishori Lal Sharma by 29,400 votes in Uttar Pradesh's Amethi as of 11:16 am.
Vote count progresses with 15.2% of total votes counted
The official ECI website reports that out of the total 976,053 votes cast via Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), approximately 148,000 votes, constituting 15.2% of the total, have been counted.
Irani's previous victory in 2019 elections
In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Smriti Irani secured victory in Amethi, a seat historically associated with the Gandhi family, by defeating Rahul Gandhi, who held the position for 15 years, with a margin of 55,120 votes.
