Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Another stampede-like situation erupted at Akhilesh Yadav's poll rally in Azamgarh as the crowd became over-excited and went uncontrollable on Tuesday.

Supporters at Akhilesh Yadav's rally, in support of Samajwadi Party (SP) Lalganj Lok Sabha seat candidate Inspector Prasad Saroj, broke the security protocol including barricades and rushed towards the stage when the SP chief was present there. The rally was organized near Kherwa turn in the Nizamabad Assembly region.

Supporters and workers were seen throwing stones, and chairs at each other and created a ruckus.

Former Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav appealed to the crowd to maintain law and order but they didn't budge. Akhilesh Yadav's wife Dimple Yadav was also present at the stage.

The police then had to resort to the lathi charge (baton charge) on the crowd after which the situation came under control.

This is the second such incident in the past three days. Earlier on May 19, a similar near-stampede situation had erupted during a joint rally by Akhilesh Yadav and Rahul Gandhi in Uttar Pradesh's Phulpur.

On Monday, SP workers in Sant Kabir Nagar broke through the security cordon, reached Yadav's car and clicked pictures with him. Microphones, chairs and coolers set up at the venue were damaged in the process.

Yadav managed to reach the stage with help from police personnel. The SP leader was in Sant Kabir Nagar to campaign for INDIA bloc candidate Pappu Nishad.

14 constituencies from UP to go for polls in sixth phase

The incident has surfaced ahead of the sixth phase of voting in the Lok Sabha elections.

Vote will take place on May 25 in 57 constituencies across 7 states and UTs.

Out of 57 seats, 14 constituencies from Uttar Pradesh including Sultanpur, Pratapgarh, Phulpur, Allahabad, Ambedkar Nagar, Shrawasti, Domariyaganj, Basti, Sant Kabir Nagar, Lalganj, Azamgarh, Jaunpur, Machhlishahr, Bhadohi will go for polls.
