Who is Akash Anand, man set to succeed Mayawati as BSP chief

The announcement was made during a party meeting held in Lucknow, emphasising a strategic move ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) Supremo Mayawati on Sunday announced nephew Akash Anand as her successor. The announcement was made during a party meeting held in Lucknow, emphasising a strategic move ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. BSP leader Udayveer Singh confirmed the decision, stating, “BSP chief Mayawati has announced Akash Anand (Mayawati's nephew) as her successor."

Who is Akash Anand? 

Akash is the son of Mayawati's younger brother Anand Kumar. She had launched him into politics at a rally in Saharanpur in 2017. After that he began appearing publicly and also started holding rallies. 

National coordinator of BSP

Akash became the National Coordinator for the party in 2019 and has been holding the position since then. He is second to Mayawati as a star campaigner  of BSP. 

Akash's education

Anand received his primary education in Gurugram and later went on to London for further studies pursuing an MBA from a renowned institute. After completing his studies, Akash joined BSP and started learning the tricks of the trade from Mayawati.

Responsibility to strengthen BSP

BSP Shahjahanpur unit district president Udayveer Singh, who had come to attend the meeting of party officials called by Mayawati, told reporters that the BSP president declared his nephew Akash Anand as his successor in the meeting. When asked specifically about the announcement made by Mayawati, Singh said, "She (Mayawati) said that he (Akash) will succeed her."

Udayveer Singh said, "He (Akash) has been given the responsibility of strengthening the party organization in the entire country except Uttar Pradesh." However, no such announcement has been mentioned in the party's official statement.
