The Agra Commissionerate executed a decoy operation under 'Mission Shakti' to apprehend eve-teasers to ensure the safety of women across the city. This comes after Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath launched the fourth phase of the campaign on Saturday (October 14).
The Uttar Pradesh Police shared a video of the police in action while they apprehended the culprits. Sharing the same on social media platform X, it said, "Agra Commissionerate executed a meticulously planned Mission Shakti decoy operation to apprehend the eve-teasers and ensure Suraksha and Samman for every girl/woman in the state."
CM Adityanath launches fourth phase
Adityanath also said a campaign would be launched from October 15 as part of the fourth phase to educate people about government initiatives concerning the protection and well-being of women and girls.
He launched the fourth phase of Mission Shakti, an initiative focused on promoting women's safety and self-reliance, from his official residence by flagging off a women empowerment rally.
The rally, which traversed several locations in the capital, aims to enhance public awareness regarding various government schemes for the welfare of women and daughters, an official release issued here said.
What is 'Mission Shakti'?
The Government of India has launched 'Mission Shakti' - an integrated women empowerment programme as umbrella scheme for the safety, security and empowerment of women for implementation during the 15th Finance Commission period 202l-22 to 2025-26. The norms of ‘Mission Shakti’ came into effect from 1st April 2022.
‘Mission Shakti’ is a scheme in mission mode aimed at strengthening interventions for women safety, security and empowerment. It seeks to realise the Government’s commitment for 'women-led development' by addressing issues affecting women on a life-cycle continuum basis and by making them equal partners in nation-building through convergence and citizen-ownership.
The scheme seeks to make women economically empowered, exercising free choice over their minds and bodies in an atmosphere free from violence and threat. It also seeks to reduce the care burden on women and increase female labour force participation by promoting skill development, capacity building, financial literacy, access to micro-credit etc.
