New Delhi: Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal recounted a humorous and insightful tale about the early days of his startup journey at a recent event. He also disclosed his father's reaction when he first presented the idea of starting his company in 2008.
He was speaking at Vishesh Sampark, an event hosted by Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri. The video of Goyal's speech has gone viral on social media. In a viral clip, he reminisces about founding Zomato 16 years ago, back in 2008. He also offers insights into the changing startup ecosystem in India.
“I started Zomato 16 years ago in 2008. And, my dad at that time told me ‘Janta hai tera baap kaun hai?’ And, his point was, ‘You can’t do a startup’. Right.. And… I come from a small town in Punjab… that’s the background,” Goyal said.
He further said that this government and its initiatives enabled a small-town boy like me to build something like Zomato, which employs lakhs of people today.
