It's a scene that could have come straight out of a horror movie - a massive bee infestation taking over a home in Scotland. The spine-chilling video shows thousands of bees swarming around the roof of the house, seemingly taking over the entire property. The footage has gone viral on social media, leaving people both fascinated and terrified by the sheer number of bees and the potential danger they pose. Let's take a closer look at this bizarre and unsettling phenomenon.
The video, captured by a resident, shows an incredible number of bees covering the exterior of the house. The buzzing sound is almost deafening as the camera pans around, capturing every nook and cranny of the infestation. It's hard to imagine how anyone could live in a house with so many bees surrounding it, let alone enter or exit safely.
According to the BBC report, the grandchildren of the homeowner reported hearing a buzzing sound at night.
Within the house, three colonies containing up to 60,000 bees were discovered. The Loch Ness Honey Company's beekeeper Andrew Card was brought in to move the swarm to makeshift hives. Before the colonies are utilized to produce honey the next year, they will be checked for parasites throughout the next few weeks.
In a brief video that he shared on social media, Mr. Card described the task at hand and demonstrated the enormous size of the hive.
According to Mr. Card, who spoke with The Press and Journal, the first colony dates to roughly seven years ago, while the other two have just recently formed. It's the biggest one he's taken on thus far, he claims.
"The chap was doing maintenance on his roof and he was aware there were potentially bees living in it but he saw a swarm go into the bathroom, so he thought it needed to be dealt with so he gave us a shout," he explained.
"I've done about maybe 30 over the last three or four years but this is the biggest one we have done."
"I use a thermal imaging camera to identify where they are so that gave me an idea of the exact position for them and then it was a case of opening up the plasterboard. I was expecting maybe three feet worth but each one of them was between six and eight feet", he added.
"It was bigger than I was expecting. There were between 150,000 and 180,000. A good colony this time of year would have 50,000 bees in it so it was a bit on the larger side."
While it may seem terrifying to have such a large number of bees swarming around your home, it's important to note that bees are not aggressive creatures by nature. They only sting when they feel threatened or are protecting their colony.
