The farmers of Karnataka took an extreme step to stress the consequences of frequent power cuts in their area by bringing a crocodile to the local HESCOM (Hubli Electricity Supply Company Limited) office as a symbol of their discontent.
According to media reports, the incident occurred on October 19, Thursday, after the farmers of Hubli's Ronihal village encountered several attacks by wild animals such as snakes, crocodiles and others.
The agitated villages alleged that the electricity department does not provide a constant power supply to their region despite being aware that the farmers irrigate their fields with electric pumps.
Besides, farmers have to visit their farmlands after sunset, posing a danger to their lives as they often encounter wild animals due to darkness in the region.
Recently, a farmer was attacked by a crocodile while working in his field.
The agitated farmers caught the alligator and brought it to the office of the electricity department in order to exhibit the danger posed by the wild animals.
The officials, who did not expect a wild guest inside their office premises, called the forest department in order to rescue the crocodile. Subsequently, the electricity department assured the farmers that they would work to minimise power cuts during the day.
Later, forest officials released the crocodile in the Almatti Dam, from where it was believed to have strayed into the field.
