Air India is investigating a shocking incident after a passenger claimed to have found a metal blade in their in-flight meal during a flight from Bengaluru to San Francisco. Journalist Mathures Paul, aboard flight AI 175 on June 9, shared his ordeal on social media.
Paul recounted discovering the blade in a fig chaat dish Air India’s catering served. "I realised it was in my food after chewing it for two or three seconds. As soon as I spat it out, I understood what it was," Paul posted on X. He noted the stewardess's brief apology and subsequent replacement of the meal with a bowl of chickpeas.
Highlighting the potential dangers, Paul remarked, "It's hazardous to have a blade on any flight. It could have cut my tongue or injured a child."
Paul also claimed that Air India offered him a "free business class trip to anywhere in the world" as compensation, which he declined, calling it a bribe.
In response, Air India issued a statement acknowledging the incident. Chief Customer Experience Officer Rajesh Dogra confirmed the presence of a "foreign object" in the meal. "Our investigation traced the source to a vegetable processing machine used by our catering partner," Dogra explained. "We are collaborating with them to enhance safety measures, including more frequent checks of the processor, especially after chopping hard vegetables."
Dogra did not address Paul's claim regarding the compensation offer.
