With Vidarbha pacer Rajneesh Gurbani (4/70) doing the primary job of dismissing the top-order, left-arm spinner Aditya Sarwate (3/97) polished the lower-order despite Hanuma Vihari's gutsy 183 for Rest of India.
Vidarbha's approach made it clear that they wanted to convert the match into a one-innings battle with Rest of India having a maximum of 180 overs to achieve the target.
The Mumbai-born batsman also becomes the fifth Indian first-class cricketer to score a double ton after the age of 40 and the first Asian player to register 250-plus score after the age of 40.

At stumps on the second day, Jaffer was batting on 61 off 120 balls and Akshay Wakhare was yet to open his account, as Vidarbha trailed by 89 runs.
