A special CBI court in Bhopal has sentenced 11 individuals to seven years of rigorous imprisonment and fined them Rs 10,000 each for their roles in the decade-old Vyapam scam, now referred to as the Madhya Pradesh Employees Selection Board (MPESB) case.
It was found that candidates Baghel and Kumar did not appear in the examination, rather the handwriting and thumb impression of the impersonators were found on the answer-sheets.
The CBI had earlier said that the accused candidates had adopted a unique engine-bogie system or method of cheating in the exam by engaging intelligent students (engines) as solver candidates for allowing copying of their answers by the beneficiaries (bogies), who would sit behind them.
According to reports, more than 100 persons arraigned by the CBI in connection with the Vyapam scam cases have been convicted so far.

The order was issued on Wednesday, by the special court of Additional District Judge Suresh Singh in Madhya Pradesh. The order was responsive to a private complaint filed by advocate Santosh Sharma.

The party said incidents of mass cheating, question paper leak and proxy students is the modus operandi used in the Vyapam scam as well.
The CBI had recently filed a separate chargesheet for the appointment of Grade-III contractual teachers’ examination held in 2012 in which former minister Laxmikant Sharma was also made an accused.
The scam in Vyavsayik Pariksha Mandal (Vyapam) or Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board broke out in 2013, wherein candidates bribed officials, rigged exams by deploying imposters to write their answer sheets.
Giving a clean chit to Chouhan, the CBI on Tuesday rejected Congress leader Digvijay Singh’s allegations that the hard disk seized in connection with this case was tampered with.
Terming Digvijay Singh’s allegations as wrong, the CBI cited CFSL report to point out that there was no proof of tampering with the data of the seized hard disk.
The courts in nine MP districts will now be closed at the request of the CBI and their 38 cases will be brought to the special Vyapam courts in Bhopal, Gwalior, Jabalpur and Indore.
