The Central Government has extended the tenure of Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, who was set to retire on November 30, 2024. Misri’s term has now been extended until July 14, 2026, or until further orders.
The statement from Jaishankar came after the foreign secretary said the Indian and Chinese negotiators were in touch over the last few weeks to resolve the remaining issues.
The foreign secretary stated that Indian and Chinese negotiators have been in touch in recent weeks to address the outstanding border issues. The agreement is said to involve patrolling arrangements in the Depsang and Demchok regions.
During a special press briefing in New Delhi, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri announced that 20 Indians are still awaiting discharge from the Russian Army.
The Foreign Secretary expressed India’s commitment to continuously support Nepal’s peace, stability, and prosperity when he met Himalayan leaders. Singh thanked India for its assistance in infrastructure development, post-earthquake reconstruction, and COVID-19 response in Nepal.
Before his role as the deputy national security advisor, Misri held the esteemed position of private secretary to three prime ministers: Inder Kumar Gujral, Manmohan Singh, and Narendra Modi. Prior to his ambassadorship to China from 2019 to 2021, Misri had a distinguished career trajectory.
The appointment of Misri, a 1989-batch Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer, came after he served as the Indian ambassador to China for nearly three years. Misri has been appointed as the deputy NSA, officials said.
