A day before he is sworn in as Vice President, Venkaiah Naidu said that the government needs parliamentary approval to push legislations so it can implement the agenda for which it had received the people's mandate.

NDA nominee Naidu was on Saturday elected the next Vice President of India, defeating opposition candidate Gopalkrishna Gandhi by a margin of 272 votes.
Venkaiah Naidu, who will be the 13th person to hold the second highest Constitutional post, will succeed Hamid Ansari on August 10.
Venkaiah Naidu secured 516 votes while Gandhi got 244 votes. Of the 771 votes polled, 11 votes were declared invalid.
Out of 760 valid votes, Venkaiah Naidu got 516 votes and UPA's candidate Gopalkrishna Gandhi got 244 votes.
Venkaiah Naidu will be the 13th person to hold the second highest Constitutional post in the country.
