WHO said its decision was based on results from ongoing research in Ghana, Kenya and Malawi that has tracked more than 800,000 children since 2019.
The cumulative COVID-19 vaccine doses administered in the country under the nationwide anti-coronavirus inoculation drive crossed 91 crores on Monday.
The Covishield vaccine, which has been developed by British-Swedish pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca, is manufactured in India by Pune-based Serum Institute of India.

ICMR Director General, Dr Balram Bhargava on Thursday said that dengue vaccine has become an important agenda.
"The call of the hour is to give the two-dose vaccination/full vaccination covering the entire adult population. The talk of booster dose is not pertinent at the moment," said ICMR DG Dr. Balram Bhargava.
The countrywide vaccination drive was rolled out on January 16 with healthcare workers (HCWs) getting inoculated in the first phase. The vaccination of frontline workers (FLWs) started from February 2.

India reported 34,973 new COVID-19 cases and 260 fatalities in the last 24 hours. The new fatalities pushed the COVID death toll to 4,42,009 in the country. 37,681 got recovered in the same duration. India has 3,90,646 active cases of COVID. Kerala reported 26,200 new COVID cases and 114 deaths in past 24 hours. Under the nationwide COVID-19 vaccination drive, 72,37,84,586 vaccine doses have been administered.
The daily vaccination tally is expected to increase with the compilation of final reports for the day by late night.
Speaking at a briefing of the Union health ministry, ICMR Director General Balram Bhargava said the vaccine tracker has been developed by synergizing data from the COWIN portal, National COVID-19 testing database, and COVID-19 India portal.
Addressing a press conference, Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan said India is still going through the second wave of COVID-19 and it is not over yet.
The ministry said over 5.58 cr balance and unutilised COVID vaccine doses are still available with states, UTs to be administered.
India reported 37,875 new COVID-19 cases and 369 fatalities in the last 24 hours. The new fatalities pushed the COVID death toll in the country to 4,41,411. 39,114 got recovered in the same duration. India has 3,91,256 active cases of COVID as of today.
