Congress leader Sampurnanand had earlier held the longest-running tenure as Uttar Pradesh CM with five years and 344 days. He was surpassed by Yogi Adityanath, who has now served for seven years and 148 days, overtaking Mulayam Singh Yadav and Mayawati.
The chief minister's statement in the Assembly came a day after a video showed revellers harassing a couple on a bike in Lucknow's Gomtinagar.
Yogi Adityanath in Ayodhya: CM Yogi's darshan-worship and excursion program was proposed in the district. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath later attended the tribute and wreath-laying program at the samadhi of Saket resident Pujya Mahant Shri Ramchandra Paramhans Das Ji Maharaj.
Uttar Pradesh news: "Police officers should take extra effort to ensure that any event planned within the state complies with the law. No event should be organised by endangering the safety of the public," CM Yogi Adityanath said.
