OBC reservation in UP: The chief minister's remarks came following the Allahabad High Court's judgment quashing the state government's December 5 notification for reservation of Other Backward Classes in the urban local body elections.

MP urban local body polls: Elections were held for the posts of mayor and corporators in these local bodies spread in 44 districts of the state.
Long queues of voters, mostly women, were seen outside polling booths in the morning hours to avoid the scorching sun and heatwave conditions prevailing in the state capital, neighbouring Cuttack and Berhampur.
The Urban Local Body elections in Tamil Nadu were held on Saturday for 12,607 posts in 21 corporations, 138 municipalities, and 490 town panchayats.
The counting began for seven municipal corporations -- Abohar, Bathinda, Batala, Kapurthala, Hoshiarpur, Pathankot and Moga -- and 109 municipal councils and municipal panchayats. A total of 9,222 candidates were in fray for 2,302 wards.
The local bodies that went to polls are two major municipal corporations of Mangaluru and Davangere and six city municipal councils, three town municipal councils and three town Panchayats in seven districts.
Out of 2.42 lakh voters in 24 wards of the Srinagar Municipal Corporation, only 9,678 (four per cent) turned up at heavily-fortified polling stations, officials said.
Voting for the third phase of municipal polls ended peacefully on Saturday in Jammu & Kashmir's Samba, Srinagar, Anantnag and Baramulla districts, with an overall turnout of 16.3 per cent.
In the first phase polls Monday, threats from militant groups kept a majority of people away from polling booths in Kashmir Valley where the turnout was a paltry 8.3 per cent, whereas over 65 per cent of the electorate voted in the Jammu and Ladakh divisions of the state.
