Unnao rape survivor Friday completed recording her testimony at a temporary court set up at the AIIMS hospital in the case of alleged sexual assault on her by expelled BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar in 2017.
An accused in the Unnao rape case on Monday approached the Supreme Court, seeking an extension of the time slated for completion of the trial in the matter.
The Supreme Court had transferred four criminal cases from Uttar Pradesh to Delhi -- the 2017 rape case; an alleged fake matter under the Arms Act against the father of the rape survivor; his death in police custody, and the gang rape of the woman.
Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva issued notice to the CBI and listed the plea for further consideration on August 30.
District Judge Dharmesh Sharma directed the medical superintendent to seek a report from the doctors attending the 19-year-old rape survivor and submit it in a sealed cover."It is made clear that in case this order is not complied with, a strict view shall be taken," the court said.
An Uttar Pradesh Police constable, accused in the assault and murder of the Unnao rape survivor's father, on Wednesday approached the Delhi High Court challenging the charges filed against him.
A bench comprising Justices Deepak Gupta and Aniruddha Bose extended the time for completing the probe after the CBI moved an application seeking four more weeks on the ground that the statements of the rape survivor and her lawyer have not been recorded so far.
The counsel of the Unnao rape survivor's mother alleged before a Delhi court that he had received a death threat from expelled BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar.
The submissions were made before District Judge Dharmesh Sharma, who held a special hearing on a court holiday with the Delhi High Court's permission to comply with the Supreme Court's 45-day deadline to conclude the trial.
The court has framed charges under Sections 120 b (criminal conspiracy), 363 (kidnapping), 366 (kidnapping or inducing a woman to compel for marriage), 376 (rape) and other relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
The lawyer, injured in a July 28 truck-car crash along with the victim, was flown from Lucknow and reached the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) at 1.30 p.m
Unnao rape survivor, who was airlifted to Delhi's AIIMS trauma centre on Monday remains to be in a critical condition. In a medical bulletin issued today, it was stated the Unnao rape survivor continues to be on life support system and is under medication to balance her blood pressure. Meanwhile, the lawyer of Unnao rape survivor was also airlifted to Delhi today for treatment.
"The lawyer was sent to New Delhi special air ambulance. He has left the King George's Medical University (KGMU), where he was undergoing treatment to airport from where he will be taken to New Delhi for better treatment," District Magistrate Kaushal Raj Sharma said.
Kuldeep Singh Sengar and his aide Shashi Singh were produced before District and Sessions Judge Dharmesh Sharma. The court ordered their transfer to Tihar Jail. The court had on Saturday issued production warrants against Sengar and his aide. Bharat Singh, appearing for Sengar, said, his client was a reputable person and four-time lawmaker, but the media trials were defaming him and his family.
"The injured patient was flown from Lucknow to be admitted in AIIMS trauma care. On the advice of the doctors of AIIMS, the journey of the ambulance carrying the injured person was facilitated by providing free passage. The ambulance left T-1 airport at 9 p.m. and reached AIIMS trauma care at 9.18 pm," a Delhi Police official said.
The rape survivor, who suffered critical injuries in a car-truck collision last week, was being airlifted to New Delhi on Monday evening following Supreme Court directives in this regard. She and her lawyer suffered critical injuries on July 28 when the car, in which they and two others were travelling, was hit by a truck in Rae Bareli. Two of her relatives were killed in the accident.
The Supreme Court on Monday directed the Uttar Pradesh government to "airlift" during the day the Unnao rape survivor, who suffered critical injuries when her car was hit by a truck last week, from Lucknow for better medical care at AIIMS in New Delhi if her treating doctors declare her "fit" for the transfer.
The CBI is carrying out searches at multiple locations in connection with the Unnao rape victim's accident case, officials said Sunday. The details of searches have been withheld as the operation is going on but it is understood that 17 places including Sengar's home are being searched, they said.
The Unnao rape survivor, who is kept on a ventilator has developed pneumonia which is causing mild fever doctors treating her at the King George's Medical University hospital in Lucknow said on Saturday. The doctor also said her condition remains critical, a week after the deadly road accident.
"Our brother Kuldeep Singh could not be here among us today as he is going through difficult times. Our best wishes are with him. We hope that he will overcome the bad times, fight through it and come out of it and be with all of you to lead you," BJP MLA Ashish Singh is heard saying in the video made at a panchayat meeting in Unnao on Friday. "Wherever we are, our best wishes are with him."
