Dhami had announced on the last day of campaigning for the February 14 state assembly polls that if re-elected to power, the BJP government will form a high-powered committee consisting of legal experts, senior citizens and intellectuals to draft Uniform Civil Code.
Addressing a presser in Uttarakhand's Khatima, Dhami said that if BJP comes to power again, soon after swearing-in, his government will form a panel to prepare a draft of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC).
"We request the State Government and all other stakeholders to reopen the educational institutions and allow the students to return to the classes at the earliest. Pending consideration of all these petitions, we restrain all the students regardless of their religion or faith from wearing saffron shawls (Bhagwa), scarfs, hijab, religious flags or the like within the classroom, until further orders," the full bench of the Karnataka High Court said in their order.
The BJP government has been pushing for Uniform Civil Code in Parliament. It had even figured in the saffron party's manifesto for the 2019 Lok Saha elections.
Modern India needs the Uniform Civil Code and it cannot remain merely a hope, observed Delhi High Court on Friday pressing for it to become a reality so that the youth belonging to various communities are not forced to struggle with issues arising due to conflicts in various personal laws.
Delhi High Court said that the hope expressed in Article 44 of the Constitution that the state shall secure for its citizens Uniform Civil Code "ought not to remain a mere hope".
