Despite the ultra-low unemployment rate, which dropped from 3.7% in August, average hourly wages slipped by a penny, the Labor Department said Friday in its monthly jobs report. Hourly pay rose just 2.9% from a year earlier, below the 3.4% year-over-year gain at the beginning of the year.
Congress spokesperson Rajiv Shukla also pointed out that the country's unemployment rate has touched an all-time high at 8.2 per cent.
The number of unemployed people in the country stood at 1.56 million in July, with a drop of 160,000 people or 9.3 per cent year-on-year, according to data provided by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications.
The joblessness among male on all India basis was 6.2 per cent, while it was 5.7 per cent in case of females.
"Government did not release the data (on jobs) as it is still being processed. When the data is ready we will release it," Rajiv Kumar said today.
