India has called for reforms at the UN for years, saying it is unable to represent the geopolitical situation adequately. India also presented a detailed model on behalf of G4 countries that proposed the addition of new permanent members at the UN.
Jaishankar underscored that much work was needed to push for India's permanent membership in the UN Security Council amid concerns that the UN had weakened. He also highlighted India's economic resilience and democratic achievements despite the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to Kamboj, the UN Security Council will continue to face "a crisis of credibility" unless it undertakes comprehensive reforms and steps in the direction of reformed multilateralism. She said that India's conviction of UN reform is backed by several countries of the Global South.
