A bench of Chief Justice Dipak Misra and Justices A M Khanwilkar and D Y Chandrachud also asked Attorney General K K Venugopal to assist it in the hearing of the plea on the issue filed by Mohua Moitra, an MLA of the Trinamool Congress.
The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) said that not only it was illegal to deny admission to students who do not have Aadhaar card, it was school's responsibility to provide enrollment and update services to students who need them.
In its latest circular to to all authentication user agencies, UIDAI has directed all telecom operators to ensure facial recognition of the applicant as well click a live photograph before activating a SIM card.
"It is necessary to inform people that they should use Aadhaar freely, without fear, and a detailed FAQ (frequently asked questions) will be issued in this regard," Ajay Bhushan Pandey, CEO of UIDAI, told PTI.

“Aadhaar data remains fully safe and secure, and people should stay away from such rumours and malicious campaign by vested interests", said UIDAI.
The tech titan said it will "work towards fixing this in an upcoming release of SetUp wizard which will be made available to OEMs over the next few weeks".
The UIDAI’s clarification came after it faced backlash on social media over the default inclusion of '1800-300-1947' in contact list of Android phones.

UIDAI asserted that any information pertaining to Sharma wasn't fetched from Aadhaar database or UIDAI's servers.
The UIADA’s statement comes a day after the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) made a case for limited Aadhaar data access for the police to crack crimes.
"We will try it... It appears to be very important," Union Minister of State for Home Hansraj Ahir said while responding to a proposal by National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) director Ish Kumar.
So far, 121.17 crore residents have been enrolled for Aadhaar.
The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has extended the deadline for service providers like banks and telecom companies to deploy virtual ID (VID) system by a month.

The statement comes after some social media and online news channel reports suggested that key Aadhaar software was available in the black market which purportedly bypasses operators biometric authentication and facilitates making of Aadhaar cards without any documents.
The new feature, the digitally-signed QR code, will contain photo of the Aadhaar holder in addition to existing facility of demographic details, in turn allowing various user agencies like banks to verify authenticity of Aadhaar card offline.
"There is no truth in this story as there has been absolutely no breach of UIDAI’s Aadhaar database. Aadhaar remains safe and secure," the statement added.
The Constitution bench is hearing a number of pleas challenging the constitutional validity of Aadhaar and its enabling Act.
