The accident took place while a pickup, with 20 people onboard, were heading to Somnath. The truck was turning right to stop at a roadside dhaba when the van rammed into it in the Surendranagr district of Gujarat.
The students were travelling in the car on the Chennai-Tirupati National Highway when it rammed into a lorry near the Thiruthani area in Thiruvallur.
The local police has registered a complaint against the absconding truck driver, who fled from the spot soon after the accident. According to the police, efforts to arrest him are on.
The impact of the collision was so devastating that the truck's driver couldn't control it and ramped onto the roadside fencing which casued a massive fire and within moments the truck was engulfed in flames.
