Sources in the government earlier said Prasad was in touch with leaders of the TMC, the BJD and some other parties to seek their help for the passage of the bill.
BJP MP Meenakshi Lekhi further pointed out that the women are the biggest minority in this country and that’s why they have been oppressed adding that it’s high time to do away with practices that oppress women.
Naqvi's remarks against the Congress came as the BJP-led central government today introduced a legislation in the Lok Sabha to make instant triple talaq illegal and void. The bill also seeks to award a three-year jail term to the husband.
The bill was -- Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill, was introduced by Law and Justice Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad.
Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad introduced the bill, calling it a "historic day" amid opposition to its introduction by members of different parties, including RJD, AIMIM, BJD and All India Muslim League.
Supreme Court had termed instant triple talaq unconstitutional and directed the government to bring in a legislation in this regard.
