In what may come as a big blow for China, after India now the United States is considering banning Chinese apps like TikTok, others. US Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo said the United States is "certainly looking at" banning Chinese social media apps, including TikTok.
On June 30, the percentage increase in the number of times Tik Tok was searched fell to a mere 23 percent.
Besides Tiktok, India banned on Monday 58 other apps with Chinese links, including the popular UC Browser, for engaging in activities “prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, defence of India, security of state and public order".
Instagram was predicted as the most obvious migration platform for the TikTok users as most of them had an existing account and promoted their TikTok content on the Facebook-owned app.
Right after Indian government banned 59 Chinese apps, including TikTok, users scrambled to find alternatives as these apps had made inroads into the lives of millions of Indians. TikTok itself, had become source of income for many content makers, especially young. Their online fame disappeared overnight.
TikTok from China-based ByteDance said they are not pursuing legal action regarding the government's directive as reported in a section of the media.

Niti Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant on Tuesday said all apps released in India must adhere to the country's data integrity, privacy and sovereignty, a day after the government banned 59 apps.
The notice that has been popping up on the app says, “Dear Users, We are in the process of complying with the Government of India's directive to block 59 apps. Ensuring the privacy and security of all our users in India remains our utmost priority."
The Central Government banned 59 mobile apps including TikTok, UC Browser and other Chinese apps on June 29.
