"Four deaths were reported from Etawah, three each from Mathura and Aligarh, two each in Firozabad and Agra and one death each in Hathras and Kanpur Dehat last night," an official spokesperson said.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath issued directives to expedite the rescue and relief operations on a war footing.
Today's storm comes days after dust storms and thunderstorms lashed several areas in Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh. At least 80 people died then in Uttar Pradesh alone.
In a statement, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said thunderstorm was observed at a few places over Himachal Pradesh, at isolated places over Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, west Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and Rajasthan.
The MeT department said that a similar weather pattern is likely to be witnessed in West Bengal, and in six of the seven northeastern states except Mizoram.
Thunderstorm accompanied with rain and gusty winds have hit Delhi NCR region and the nearby areas of Bhiwani, Rohtak, Bagpat, Panipat, Meerut and Bijnor. Power outages have been reported from several areas.
In an advisory, the IMD said thunderstorm with gusty winds are “very likely” in parts of Himachal Pradesh, east Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Jharkhand.

The IMD issued an amber-coloured alert, indicating severe weather, for parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarkhand, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Delhi, Chandigarh, western Uttar Pradesh, Sikkim and West Bengal.
