"We welcome the Supreme Court judgement. We shall extend whatever help is needed to the CBI. We will examine the (verdict's) Para 34 and think about it (parallel probe)," Home Minister Anil Deshmukh said.
Sushant Singh Rajput's uncle lives with his family in their ancestral home in the village. The actor's cousin Panna Singh said that apex court's decision in the case has come as a good news not only for the village but for the whole country.
The CBI, which took over the probe into an FIR registered by the Bihar Police on the basis of a compaint by Rajput's father KK Singh, is yet to visit the megacity regarding the investigation. It has collected relevant material from the Bihar police and has also spoken to some stakeholders in the case, they said.
Earlier in the day, the Supreme Court ordered a CBI probe into the death of Sushant and asked the Mumbai Police to hand over all evidence collected so far in the case to the CBI.
The top court noted that the Mumbai Police were conducting only a limited inquiry into the cause of unnatural death, under Section 174 CrPC and therefore, it cannot be said with certainty at this stage that they will not undertake an investigation on the other aspects of the unnatural death, by registering an FIR.
"As a Court exercising lawful jurisdiction for the assigned roster, no impediment is seen for exercise of plenary power in the present matter," said Justice Roy invoking Article 142 to transfer the Sushant Singh Rajput death case to the CBI.
"Now that the country's premier investigating agency has taken over, we believe that all those involved in the dastardly crime will be brought to justice. We believe that public trust in institutions is important, today's development has reaffirmed our faith in India as a robust democracy," says Sushant Singh Rajput's family.
The CBI will seek details of the autopsy report, crime scene photographs from the Mumbai Police and the same will be shared with the forensic experts posted at CFSL. The sources said that the agency will demand the statements of all the persons whose statements were recorded in the last two months and the electronic devices of the late actor which are with the Mumbai Police.
After the apex court ordered an investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation in the case, the Chief Minister on Wednesday said: "After the Supreme Court's decision, it is now clear that whatever was done in Bihar was constitutional, legitimate and as per the law."
Justice Hrishikesh Roy will pronounce the verdict at 11 a.m. The transfer petition filed by Rhea has been opposed by the Bihar government and Sushant Singh's father K.K. Singh.
He explains his decision: "We are a country full of people with sentiments and religious values. Today the sentiments are with Sushant Singh Rajput. So I think we should respect the audience's verdict. We don't want to hurt anybody's sentiment, especially his fans. That's why we have decided not to cast her."
"Why did Rhea leave SSR in such a bad state? Why did she block him? On one floor, SSR used to sleep and on the other floor people were partying," the senior counsel said. He added that such a statement from Rhea and her legal team right before the verdict of the Supreme Court is just an attempt to get 'sympathy'.
The sudden demise of Sushant on June 14 shook the entertainment industry, and its ripple effects continue to be felt. People in Bollywood who were close to Sushant, including his ex-girlfriend Ankita Lokhande and friend Kriti Sanon, have demanded a CBI inquiry into Sushant's case, as have many Bollywood colleagues.
"A number of politicians (are) taking advantage of this case on the eve of elections in Bihar. Rhea does not know and has never met Aaditya Thackeray till today. Neither has she ever spoken to him telephonically or otherwise, though she has heard of him as a leader of the Shiv Sena", says Rhea\s lawyer.
"The autopsy was not shared with anybody for long. It is silent on the effect of hanging on the body, like popping out of eyes, bone-snapping etc; nothing is there. I don't think even nail clippings have been taken for testing," Vikas Singh said.
Sushant's family, friends and fans have demanded a CBI investigation into his death. Karan is simply "hoping and praying all the near and dear ones find a closure".
Right from the start after Sushant's death, Subramanian Swamy has been vocal about the need for a CBI probe. He even wrote a couple of letters to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting him to hand over to the case to the investigative agency.
"The Maharashtra Police in its affidavit has said that it has collected statements of 56 persons. In view of the admitted position that there is no FIR registered and the police officer is merely discharging functions under section 174, such statements have no validity or legal sanctity and are non-est," the Centre said.
"I hope and pray that the CBI takes over the case so it's investigated without any political agenda, in the TRUE sense, to provide justice to the family!! It's high time his soul rests in peace! #CBIForSSR #SushantSinghRajput," said Kriti Sanon, who worked with Sushant in the 2017 release Raabta.
"The aim is to ensure justice for Sushant. I request the (Sushant's) family members and all others to remain quiet for some time and allow the Mumbai Police to peacefully complete their investigations. All must cooperate with the police probe," said Sanjay Raut.
