NASA will launch two new missions to advance our understanding of the Sun and its dynamic effects on space weather, the US space agency said.
The scientists suspected that one big question informed the other -- that the history of the Sun is buried in the Moon's crust.
Four billion yeras ago, the Sun went through violent bursts of radiation. NASA feels history of the Sun is buried in crust of the Moon. This, they say, may even reveal secrets of life on earth.
The spacecraft is operating well and all instruments are collecting science data, sending back normal signals through NASA's Deep Space Network.
The spacecraft completed its first orbit of the Sun, reaching the point in its orbit farthest from our star, called aphelion, NASA said in a statement.
Some places, including the Griffith Observatory in Los Angeles will be live streaming the phenomenon.
The planet, known as Barnard's Star b, is the second nearest to Earth outside the solar system and orbits its host star once every 233 days.
The manoeuvre exposed the spacecraft to intense heat and solar radiation in a complex solar wind environment, NASA said in a statement.
The innovation is an important step for putting solar heat-to-electricity generation in direct cost competition with fossil fuels, researchers said.
FOXSI (Focusing Optics X-ray Solar Imager) is a sounding rocket mission and it will take its third flight from New Mexico on September 7.
NASA launches daring Solar Probe Mission to take closer look at Sun
The car-sized spacecraft called Parker Solar Probe is slated to lift off no earlier than August 6, on a United Launch Alliance Delta IV Heavy.
Parker Solar Probe is humanity’s first mission to the Sun. After launch, it will orbit directly through the solar atmosphere - the corona - closer to the surface than any human-made object has ever gone.
Scrape off the dead skin growth from the corner of the nail and paint some almond oil for super nourishment.
The researchers have found a star located 120 light years away in the constellation of Cygnus which is identical to Sun in mass, radius and age.
The general prevailing theory is that our solar system was formed billions of years ago near a supernova. However, the latest study, published in the Astrophysical Journal, begins with a giant type of star called a Wolf-Rayet star.
The corona is hundreds to thousands of times hotter than the Sun's visible surface, the photosphere.
The “unprecedented” mission that will send humanity’s first spacecraft to a star is aimed at exploring Sun’s atmosphere and answer questions about solar physics that have puzzled scientists for over six decades.
Scientists have discovered a new world right round the corner from Earth. A new ‘super Earth’ planet was found with a mass around 5.4 times that of the Earth, orbiting a very bright star near
A team of Brazilian astronomers has discovered two new planets around a star similar to the sun known as HIP 68468. The two new planets, dubbed "super Neptune" and "super Earth", are the first to
