Operation Kaveri: As part of 'Operation Kaveri,' India has been taking its citizens in buses from conflict zones of Khartoum and other troubled areas to Port Sudan from where they are being taken to the Saudi Arabian city of Jeddah in IAF's heavy-lift transport aircraft and Indian Navy's ships.
At a high-level meeting on Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had issued directions for preparation of contingency plans to evacuate Indians from Sudan.

Operation Kaveri: The first batch of Indians stranded in Sudan left the violence-hit country onboard India's naval ship under the operation.
The Modi government has started Operation Kaveri for the safe return of Indians stranded in Sudan. Airspace is closed in Sudan, so an operation is being carried out through the sea to evacuate Indians.
Operation Kaveri is underway to bring back our citizens stranded in Sudan. About 500 Indians have reached Port Sudan while more are on their way, said EAM Jaishankar.
Sudan has been witnessing deadly fighting between the country's army and a paramilitary group for the last 11 days that has reportedly left around 400 people dead.
The Government of India is making all out efforts to ensure safety and security of Indians stranded in Sudan and is closely monitoring the complex and evolving security situation in Sudan.
The staffers were airlifted to an undisclosed location in Ethiopia, according to two US officials familiar with the mission.
The evacuation of Indians has come days after External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar discussed the matter with his Saudi and UAE counterparts.
Officials did not elaborate on exactly how the rescue unfolded but Burhan said the Saudi diplomats and nationals had first traveled by land to Port Sudan, the country’s main seaport on the Red Sea.
But for many Sudanese, Burhan’s claims rang hollow 18 months after he joined forces with his current rival to seize power in a coup that cast aside Sudan’s pro-democracy forces.
India on Thursday said the situation in Sudan is "very tense" and it is focusing on ensuring the safety and well-being of the Indian community, including working on contingency plans and possible evacuation.
Sudan crisis: More than 300 people, including an Indian national, have been killed since intense fighting erupted in the Sudanese capital, Khartoum and elsewhere in the country on Saturday. The conflict is a direct result of a vicious power struggle within the country’s military leadership.
Both warring generals have tens of thousands of fighters, foreign backers, mineral riches and other resources that could insulate them from sanctions.
