Amid heavy downpour in Mumbai on Saturday, at least 700 passengers were stranded as Mumba-Kolhapur Mahalaxmi Express held up between Badlapur and Vangani station due to severe waterlogging on rail tracks of the route. 7 Navy teams, 2 helicopters of Indian Air Force, 2 Military columns and NDRF team have been deployed along with local administration in the rescue operation.
The passengers were assisted by Liaison Officers Mohammed Yusuf at Jammu, Assad Ali at Srinagar and Anwar Hussain at Kargil, along with their team of Assistant Liaison Officers.
The Indian Air Force airlifted over 700 stranded passengers, including students, from Jammu to Srinagar on Monday, a defence spokesperson said.
A scuffle broke out between a group of students and some stranded Kashmir-bound passengers outside the Gandhi Memorial Science College here on Monday but timely intervention by police brought the situation under control, officials said.
