Gujarat hooch tragedy: The matter came to light early Monday morning when some locals of Rojid village of Barvala taluka and other surrounding villages were referred to government hospitals.
Maximum number of deaths took place in Bhagalpur district where so far 22 persons have died since Saturday. Besides, 12 persons lost their lives in Banka district and 3 in Madhepura.
The deceased were identified as Ram Karan Sonkar (55), Rampreet (55) and Jhabbu Sonkar (52).
According to police, the victims, who were friends, consumed liquor, suspected to be spurious, Tuesday night at a shop owned by one of them.

While addressing media, Sanjay Jaiswal said, " Wherever the police are active, the illicit liquor sale is happening. Especially in the East Champaran, the sale of illicit alcohol could not happen without the collusion of police."

Aligarh SP said two liquor shops of the same licensee in village Kursua and Andla have been sealed as those who have died purchased alcohol from them. “A case is being registered against licensee and others involved.” Six police teams are combing villages to trace victims and help people get medical assistance.
