The technical advisory group of the World Health Organisation (WHO) will meet on October 26 to consider the emergency use listing (EUL) for Bharat Biotech's Covaxin, Chief Scientist at WHO, Soumya Swaminathan said on Sunday.
Speaking at a webinar organised by the Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) on Friday, Soumya Swaminathan said the WHO is reviewing Covaxin as its manufacturer Bharat Biotech is now uploading its entire data on the health body’s portal.
Swaminathan received the award from Chief Minister K Palaniswami on the 74th Independence Day celebration at Fort St George in Chennai. The WHO representative has been offering suggestions to the state health department to step up measures in fighting the pandemic.
The Chief Scientist of WHO, Soumya Swaminathan, in an interactive session through video conference said,as of now about 28 vaccine candidates for COVID-19 are under clinical trial, of which five are entering Phase-II and over 150 candidates are in pre-clinical trials across the globe.
