Widespread snowfall in Jammu-Kashmir, Himachal, excitement among tourists
Parts of Kashmir, including the plains, received fresh snowfall which led to the closure of the Srinagar-Jammu national highway.
Drass was recorded the coldest in Jammu and Kashmir, at minus 24.8 degrees Celsius. The maximum temperature in the town remained below the freezing point at minus 9.8.
As the national capital reels under rains and gusty winds brought on by weather anomalies, North India shivers after a thick blanket of snow covered most of the upper reaches.
The Border Road Organisation has been pressed into clearing the highway, an official said.
The Met officials said that most of the tourist places in Kashmir, including Gulmarg and Pahalgam, received the snowfall. Traces of snowfall was also witnessed in Srinagar early in the morning, an official said.

The minimum temperature in Kufri was recorded at 3.6 degrees Celsius and 7 degrees Celsius in Shimla.
Tourist destination Manali in Kullu district received first snowfall of the season. Manali received 4 cm snowfall, Director of MeT centre Shimla Manmohan Singh said.
