A person born in Karnataka, residing in the state for 15 years, and able to speak, read, and write Kannada will be considered a local candidate. Candidates who did not study Kannada in high school must pass a test conducted by a nodal agency, as per the act.
This bill aims to ensure that Kannadigas have a substantial representation in the workforce across different job categories, furthering the state's objective of supporting and prioritising its local population in employment.
This increase, benefiting around 14 to 15 lakh employees, addresses a key demand and is expected to cost the state an additional Rs 17,440.15 crore annually.
