The MV Dali cargo ship with 20 Indian and one Sri Lankan crew members collided with the 2.6-km-long four-lane Francis Scott Key Bridge on March 26. The accident resulted in the death of six crew members and the FBI and federal agencies in the US have launched investigations.
The two countries have clashed repeatedly as both claim the Second Thomas Shoal, which was internationally recognised as part of the Philippines but was ignored by China. Beijing has repeatedly harassed the Philippine navy and coast guard ships with water cannons and more.
The media reports claimed that the incident occurred at around 1:30 am when a 300-metre Singapore-flagged ‘Dali’ ship slammed into one of the bridge's pillars.
