A trial court in Islamabad convicted and sentenced the 70-year-old Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman to three years in prison on August 5.
"It is not possible that while the people face difficulties, high-ranked officials and the prime minister continue to consume free electricity paid for with the taxes people pay," said Pakistan's interim PM.

As of now, officials have not released how many were killed in the incident, but locals claimed at least 11-16 workers were feared dead.
Notably, the Biden administration's response came after a mob allegedly led by the Pakistani Taliban, formally called the Tehreek-e-Taliban-e-Pakistan-- an umbrella organisation of various Islamist armed militant groups operating along the Afghan-- attacked several churches over alleged blasphemy.

The former Pakistan PM was serving a seven-year imprisonment at Lahore’s Kot Lakhpat jail in the Al-Azizia Mills case before he was allowed to proceed to London in 2019 on "medical grounds".
"It has been decided that another round of consultation will be held tomorrow (Friday). Till a name is not finalised no name will be revealed," said opposition leader Raja Riaz after the talks.
"Though there is nothing new in this story, the investigation needs to held to establish the authenticity of the information or source document," Sanaullah tweeted on Thursday.
Although the National Assembly was dissolved as per the constitution, a statement from President Arif Alvi’s office said that he acted upon the instructions from outgoing Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. It was dissolved three days prior to the completion five-year term.
Citing "classified documents", the report said the plan was set up on March 7, 2022, when two US State Department officials including Assistant Secretary of State for the Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs Donald Lu with Asad Majeed Khan, was then-Pakistan’s ambassador to the US.
According to the report, the potential candidate had met with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, however, there was no official announcement.
"The president dissolved the National Assembly on the advice of the prime minister under Article 58-1 of the Constitution," read an official statement issued by the President's Office.
