War of words erupts over Shashi Tharoor's 'Hindu Pakistan' remark, BJP demands appology
Shashi Tharoor sparks controversy, says India will become Hindu Pakistan if BJP wins 2019 LS polls
Lok Sabha elections 2019: Responding to veteran Congress leader’s comment, BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra said, “Shashi Tharoor’s comment is not only insult for the Hindustan but also for the Hindus”.
On May 14, the Delhi Police had filed a chargesheet in the court, in which it named Tharoor as an accused.
Delhi Police has opposed Tharoor's anticipatory bail plea, saying he might flee the country or influence the witnesses.
The order on anticipatory bail plea of Shashi Tharoor has been reserved after the Delhi Police said that the Congress leader might flee the country.
The plea, filed before Special Judge Arvind Kumar, mentions that the charge sheet has been filed without arrest.
Tharoor said he has taken note of the developments in the case being heard by the Patiala House Court in relation to the circumstances surrounding the death of his wife Sunanda Pushkar.
Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Samar Vishal said there were sufficient grounds to proceed against Tharoor for commission of offences in the case.
In an e-mail sent to Tharoor on January 8, 2014, she had written, "I don't care about the test. I have no desire to live...all I pray for is death," the police claimed but did not elaborate.

The charge-sheet was filed under section 306 and 498A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
The panel has been looking into various aspects of the India-China military standoff at Doklam and has been briefed several times on the issue by the former and current Foreign Secretary Vijay Gokhale.
"I have a clearly point of view for as much autonomy as possible for the local people (of the northeastern states)," Tharoor said, calling for much attention to the needs and sensitivities of each area in the region.
Charging the Narendra Modi government with promoting a narrow-minded idea of India based on Hindutva, senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor on Friday appealed to voters in Meghalaya not to vote for the BJP in the February 27 Assembly polls.
Asked about who should be the Congress' allies in the next Lok Sabha elections, Shashi Tharoor said it was too early and wrong because he is not in a position to speak about it.
"Many many Hindus, certainly my generation, grew up as believing and practising Hindus but never showed it outside as they didn't feel like doing so," Tharoor said.
External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Tharoor had earlier this month traded barbs in the Lok Sabha over making Hindi an official language at the UN.
Sushma Swaraj, in her reply to a question, said: "It is often asked why Hindi is not an official language in the UN. Today, I will want to tell the House, the biggest problem is the procedure."
Arun Jaitley, Arvind Kejriwal, Shashi Tharoor and Subramanian Swamy were the newsmakers of 2017 in the Delhi High Court.
