NCP chief Sharad Pawar announced his decision when he was allegedly urged by party leaders to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. He stated this during the party's review meeting on Thursday.
The office was inaugurated by NCP (Ajit Pawar) working president Praful Patel who performed a 'havan' during the ceremony. Ajit Pawar is expected to visit Delhi and chair first meeting at the newly inaugurated office soon.
Sharad Pawar said If a party is working with such a formula (misuse of power), it has to be jointly opposed. “Our party and other similar-minded outfits came together and decided to pose a major challenge to the BJP,” he added.
Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) supremeo Sharad Pawar claimed that 19,553 women were reported “missing” from Maharashtra between January 1 and May 31 this year.
Ajit Pawar had moved the Election Commission claiming the support of 42 of 53 NCP MLAs in Maharashtra. While the hearing on the NCP split is underway in the Election Commission, Ajit Pawar has already described himself as the party's national president.

As per the latest India TV-CNX Opinion Poll, Maharashtra is likely to witness a close contest in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls with both alliances going neck to neck in the Opinion Polls. However, the BJP-led NDA is still predicted to win most of the seats in the state.
In July this year, Ajit Pawar had approached the election commission and staked a claim over the NCP name and symbol. The ECI will hear the pleas of the Sharad Pawar faction and Ajit Pawar-led faction of NCP today.
Ajit Pawar along with other NCP MLAs turned rebel and had joined the BJP-Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde)-led government in Maharashtra after which Ajit was made the Deputy Chief Minister along with Devendra Fadnavis.
This is happening for the second time that NCP leader Mohd Faizal has been disqualified as a member of the Lok Sabha.
Maharashtra news: MVA govt fell last year after Eknath Shinde, along with 39 Sena MLAs, joined hands with the BJP to become the chief minister with Fadnavis as his deputy, Ajit Pawar broke away from NCP in July this year to be a part of the ruling coalition.
An independent MLA supporting the BJP, said that Sharad Pawar will join hands with the BJP and Narendra Modi in a few days. Sharad Pawar has, however, said on various instances in the past that he will not join hands with the BJP.
Sharad Pawar said that he will be present at the ECI hearing on the NCP split on October 6 in the national capital. He also slammed Ajit Pawar apparently stating that those who joined hands with the BJP cannot be a part of the NCP.
Sharad Pawar said that the possibility of differences among I.N.DI.A partners cannot be ruled out when the elections near, however, efforts will be made to ensure that no disputes arise among parties.

The coordination committee of the Opposition bloc I.N.D.I Alliance is scheduled to hold its first meeting on Wednesday in New Delhi.
The Nationalist Congress Party has a total of 54 MLAs. One lawmaker had died while there is no clarity on the status of Nawab Malik.
The 14-member committee will meet at the residence of NCP chief Sharad Pawar to chalk out the coalition's strategies and future programmes.
