Suryakanta Patil's decision to leave BJP and return to NCP marks a significant shift especially ahead of the Assembly elections scheduled in the state. She is scheduled to formally join NCP at 3 PM today.
Assembly elections in Maharashtra are due to be held later this year along with the polls in Haryana and Jharkhand. NCP-Sharadchandra Pawar, Shiv Sena (Uddhav Thackeray) and Congress are members of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance.
Uddhav Thackeray, who was also present at the press conference, said that the MVA's victory in the Lok Sabha polls is just a beginning and not the end.
Baramati continues to be a focal point in Maharashtra politics, with the Pawar family feud dominating election campaigns. The rivalry, whether in Lok Sabha or Assembly elections, captures everyone's attention. The previous Lok Sabha election saw a clash between Supriya Sule and Sunetra Pawar.
The Shiv Sena (UBT) won nine Lok Sabha seats in Maharashtra in the just concluded elections, the same as the BJP, while its rival faction led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde bagged seven.
