The 23-year-old law student, who had leveled sexual harassment charges against former Union Minister Chinmayanand, has been released on bail from Shahjahanpur district jail. Late on Wednesday evening, she was granted bail by the Allahabad High Court. Her bail applications were earlier denied by lower courts in Shahjahanpur.
Chinmayanand used to tear the clothes of the law student whenever she resisted his sexual advances. The district government counsel Anuj Singh has said that according to the law student's statement, the former minister used to tear her clothes whenever she refused to remove them on her own, which is why they slapped IPC Section 354D on Chinmayanand.
Former Union Minister Chinmayanand, who has been accused of sexual harassment by a law student, was discharged from the Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGI) here late on Monday and shifted to the district jail in Shahjahanpur, police sources said.
The student who levelled rape charges against BJP leader Swami Chinmayanand recorded her statement before a magistrate here on Monday. The special investigation team (SIT) probing the case took her to the court, where her statement was recorded before Judicial Magistrate Geetika Singh, official sources said here.
With her face covered by a black dupatta, the 23-year-old was escorted by several police women as she arrived in the court.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Chinmayananda had been accused by the woman's father of sexually harassing her and kidnapping her. She was found just before the Supreme Court was to take up her case.
Taking cognizance of the incident, UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath directed district administration to provide medical care to those injured and appropriate compensation.
