A study by IISER Mohali attributed the prevailing cold wave in North India to the infiltration of cold, dry air from the Siberian high. The Siberian High, accumulating from November to February, contributed to severe cold wave conditions, according to the Weather and Climate Extremes journal.
"Situation will continue in the next three to four days and the maximum temperature will be around 14 degree Clsius. Cold wave conditions will persist till Saturday as the minimum temperature is likely to drop to 4 degree C," he said.
For the study, the team tested 152 study participants' nasal microbiomes before and after giving them the cold virus.
