Schools reopened to dull scenes as the usual cacophony of school activity was amiss. Most faculty and school principals stayed from the classes as the teachers' unions have voiced dissatisfaction over the talks on wages.
With COVID-19 cases declining, the government had reopened schools for students of classes 6 to 8 from September 6, and for students of classes 9 to 12 from August 23
State school and mass education minister Samir Ranjan Dash said the classes will be conducted at the usual timing and a detailed program will be released by his department soon.
Students were seen excited while entering their schools and authorities welcomed them back, as physical sessions resumed for classes 8 to 12 in the city and for classes 5 to 12 in rural areas of the district
The Kerala government has decided to reopen schools for classes 1 to 7, class 10, and class 12 from November 1.
The state government earlier announced that the physical classes in schools would resume across Maharashtra from October 4. “All the schools in rural areas will resume physical classes for standards 5th to 12th," said school education minister Varsha Gaikwad
Schools in the national capital for classes 9 to 12 re-opened on September 1 after a prolonged closure due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Students of Classes 10 and 12 will attend school on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, whereas those of Classes 9 and 11 will come to school on Thursday, Friday and Saturday in a week, according to the officials.
The top court's observation came as it dismissed a plea that sought directions to Centre and states to consider and take a time-bound decision with regard to the physical re-opening of schools and conduct of offline teaching.

Before reopening, there is an urgent need for improvements in school infrastructure and facilities. Authorities must make a thorough assessment of school premises.
Niti Aayog Member (Health) Dr. VK Paul on Thursday said that vaccinating children was not a condition for reopening schools. He said this criterion was not acceptable anywhere in the world.
According to the guidelines, classes for students of 12th standard would be permitted with in-person attendance not exceeding 50 per cent of capacity on a given day.
