Sanjay Bhandari, an accused middleman in the defence sector, fled to the UK in 2016 and is wanted in India on tax evasion and money laundering charges. The UK government had ordered his extradition to India in 2022 and a high court allowed him to appeal the order in March 2024.
A joint team of CBI-ED-NIA will soon visit the UK to expedite the process of extradition of India's key fugitives, including Nirav Modi, Vijay Mallya, and Sanjay Bhandari.
District Judge Michael Snow, who heard the case at Westminster Magistrates’ Court in London earlier this year, concluded that there are no bars to him being extradited and decided to send the case to UK Home Secretary Suella Braverman.
