I do feel my recovery is taking longer, I'm putting my 3-year-old son at risk by travelling so much with him, that's something I have to take into account. I think my body is wearing down. My knee was really hurting today and I'm not saying that's the reason we lost but I do think that it is taking time to recover as I'm getting older."
Mirza, 35, had returned to tennis after giving birth to her son in March 2019 but her progress was later thwarted by the coronavirus pandemic.
Sania and Ukrainian Nadiia Kichenok, the second seeds, lost the opening round of the WTA 250 event 3-6, 3-6 to Czech pair of Tereza Martincova and Marketa Vondrousova in 61 minutes.
Sania and Nadiia put up a fiery fight but eventually lost their doubles semifinal tie to two-time Grand Slam winner Barty and partner Sanders in one hour five minutes.
