TVS Motor Company on Monday reported 15.39 per cent decline in total sales at 2,53,261 units in February on account of BS-IV reduction and impact of parts supply disruption due to coronavirus outbreak. The company had sold 2,99,353 units in February 2019, TVS Motor Co said in a statement.
Passenger vehicle sales in the domestic market during the month stood at 10,400 units as against 16,982 units in the same month previous year, down 39 per cent.
Exports also declined 26 per cent to 2,621 units as against 3,537 units in the year-ago month. In the passenger vehicle segment, which includes utility vehicles, cars and vans, the company sold 14,637 units last month as compared to 16,188 units in the same month last year, down 10 per cent.
Total domestic sales were down 32 per cent at 39,152 units as compared with 57,710 units in October last year, it added. Passenger vehicle sales in the domestic market during the month stood at 13,169 units as against 18,290 units in October last year, 28 per cent down.
Domestic sales in September this year stood at 2,15,501 units as against 3,11,503 units, down 31 per cent, Bajaj Auto said in a regulatory filing.
According to Maruti Suzuki Chief Executive Kenichi Ayukawa, the government is sensitive to the implications of the auto sector slowdown and is taking steps to reverse it.
The company, which makes two-wheelers and three-wheelers, had sold 3,13,614 units in the same month last year, TVS Motor Co said in a statement.
According to the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), passenger cars sales in the domestic market dropped to 160,279 units from 200,183 units sold during April 2018.
