Sajjan Kumar was sentenced to life imprisonment by Delhi High Court on December 17, 2018, for his role in the 1984 Sikh riots.
A bench of justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul and M M Sundresh said it is not inclined to grant bail to Sajjan Kumar on medical grounds.
The Supreme Court on Monday agreed to consider according to urgent hearing to the bail plea of former Congress leader Sajjan Kumar, sentenced for life by the Delhi High Court in a 1984 anti-Sikh riots case.
The submission came after Joginder Singh, who is a witness and the complainant in the case, told the court that certain facts written in the statement given by him to the police relating to the case were false.
The case in which Kumar was convicted and sentenced relates to the killing of five Sikhs in Delhi Cantonment's Raj Nagar Part-I area of southwest Delhi on November 1 and 2, 1984.

Kumar (73) had surrendered before a trial court here on December 31, 2018, to serve the sentence in pursuance of the high court's December 17 judgement awarding him life imprisonment for the "remainder of his natural life".
The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear on January 14 the appeal filed by former Congress leader Sajjan Kumar challenging the Delhi High Court verdict convicting and sentencing him to life term in a 1984 anti-Sikh riots case.
Earlier on December 22, Sajjan Kumar filed an appeal in the Supreme Court after the High Court dismissed Kumar’s plea seeking more time to surrender.

The high court said though it was "undeniable" that it took over three decades to punish the accused in the case, it was important to assure the victims that despite the challenges faced by the court, "truth will prevail and justice will be done".
Party leader Ghulam Nabi Azad refused to comment when asked for his reaction.
