As the counting of votes for the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections begins, J-K BJP chief and Nowshera Assembly candidate Ravinder Raina expressed confidence in the party's victory, predicting that the BJP will secure 30-35 seats in the Union Territory.
The BJP has nominated Ghulam Mohammed Mir, while the NC has selected Chowdary Mohammad Ramzan as their candidate. Sajjad Gani Lone will contest from the Handwara seat and has also submitted nominations for the Kupwara seat.
Handwara Assembly Election 2024: Jammu and Kashmir People Conference (JKPC) leader Sajad Gani Lone won the Handwara constituency in 2014 by defeating Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) candidate Chowdry Mohamad Ramzan with a margin of 5,423 votes.
Engineer Rashid has been a two-time MLA from Langate Assembly seat in Jammu and Kashmir. He won the election in 2008 and 2014. Rashid unsuccessfully contested Lok Sabha polls from Baramulla in 2014 and 2019. After the revocation of Article 370, J-K became a Union Territory with Legislative Assembly.
Baramulla will vote in the fifth phase on May 20. The seat has 18 Assembly segments. Jammu and Kashmir has a total of 5 Lok Sabha seats including Baramulla, Srinagar, Anantnag-Rajouri, Udhampur and Jammu.
